Dental lasers have been around for many years. Most
of these lasers had very limited uses, such as the ability to only cut
gums. A company called BioLase has finally developed the most versatile
dental laser available today. The Waterlase MD http://www.biolase.com/waterlaseMD.html
is THE latest, cutting edge technology in dental LASERS, available anywhere!
It can be used to cut tooth, gum, or bone. It uses air and water, much
like a regular "drill", but does not cause vibration. No high-pitched
"whining" sound is produced. The laser beam ablates (vaporizes)
that which it touches. It is extremely safe: A. The laser beam will only
"cut" if it is within 1-2 mm of the intended target surface
and B. No special tinted glasses need to be worn to protect the eyes from
the laser beam. One very special property of this laser is that, in the
majority of cases, the laser light prevents the nerve in the tooth and
the nerves of the gum to send pain signals!! This means that most procedures
can be done without a "needle"!

The following is an abbreviated list of patient advantages that the laser
offers:
--For adults, most routine fillings can be done WITHOUT anesthesia. NO NEEDLE! NO LINGERING NUMBNESS! --For children, almost all routine fillings can be done WITHOUT anesthesia. NO NEEDLE! NO LINGERING NUMBNESS! Note: The laser will NOT cut into silver fillings or porcelain/metal crowns. In those cases, it may be possible to use the laser to "numb" the tooth, after which the traditional drill can be used. --For "white" fillings, use of the laser on the bonding
surfaces increases the bond strength by 50%!! --Most soft tissue procedures, such as frenectomies and gingivectomies, can be done bloodlessly and without a "needle". --Most combined soft/hard tissue procedures, such as crown lengthening, can be done bloodlessly and without a "needle". --Most mouth sores (cold sores, aphtous ulcers) can be neutralized instantly --Most sensitive gum line areas of teeth can be neutralized instantly. --Greater disinfection/sterilization of root canal teeth can be accomplished. The WaterLase MD dental laser allows our office, and YOUR care, to move to the highest level of excellence possible. |
